Inovus Medical unveils suite of new modules for LapAR laparoscopic simulator

Inovus Medical, a leader in surgical training technology, has announced the launch of its suite of second-generation modules for the pioneering LapAR laparoscopic simulator.

Building on the success of its first-generation platform, these new modules represent a significant advancement in surgical education, offering enhanced haptic and anatomical realism, scalability, and usability. The company says this launch solidifies the LapAR’s position as one of the ‘most advanced and comprehensive’ high fidelity laparoscopic simulators available today.

Inovus says that since its inception, the LapAR simulator has set a new benchmark in laparoscopic training, combining high-fidelity physical models with augmented reality to create an immersive learning environment.

Designed with the evolving needs of surgical professionals in mind, the LapAR provides a holistic training solution that covers a broad range of procedures, from fundamental skills to highly complex surgeries.

The development of this innovative simulator has been continuously informed by feedback from leading surgeons and educators around the world, ensuring that the LapAR meets and exceeds the rigorous standards required in surgical education says Inovus.

Inovus Medical has introduced a series of new modules that have been designed to replicate the challenges of real-life surgery, expanding the capabilities of the LapAR simulator. The second-generation suite of modules includes three new modules focused on general surgery, alongside six new modules tailored specifically for OBGYN procedures.

Among the general surgery offerings, the adhesiolysis module provides training for the delicate and critical task of separating adhesions, a procedure essential for improving patient outcomes.

The enterotomy module allows trainees to hone the precision required in small and large bowel surgery, offering them the opportunity to perfect their technique in a safe and controlled environment. Additionally, the second-generation appendectomy module has been updated to feature even greater soft tissue realism according to the company.

The new pelvic side wall dissection module offers detailed and realistic training for complex pelvic surgeries, which are vital in the field of gynecologic oncology. The cystectomy module has been developed to replicate the intricate steps involved in the removal of ovarian cysts.

Inovus Medical is also introducing a new myomectomy module, enabling surgeons to refine their skills in removing uterine fibroids. The new OBGYN modules are further complemented by three additional offerings, expanding the LapAR suite to cover a comprehensive spectrum of gynecological surgeries and ensuring that OBGYN specialists receive the most robust and realistic training possible.

Thanks to advances in material science, these new modules closely mimic the behavior and tactile feedback of human tissue. Each phantom delivers haptic realism, allowing trainees to experience the subtleties and complexities of surgical procedures.

“The release of these second-generation modules represents a significant milestone in our ongoing mission to remaster surgical training. Our commitment to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in simulation technology is reflected in the enhanced realism and expanded procedural range of these new modules. We are dedicated to providing surgeons with the most advanced and effective tools to improve their skills and, ultimately, lead to better patient outcomes,” said Dr. Elliot Street, CEO and co-founder, of Inovus Medical.

The second-generation LapAR modules will be available for order from 8 November 2024, through Inovus Medical’s global commercial team.
